The Client Road Map System
Â
Have you ever sat in a follow-up session with a client and thought to yourself, "I don't know what else to talk about today because I've already educated them on everything?"
Do your clients often stop rebooking after just two or three sessions?
Do your clients often cancel or reschedule because they tell you they need more time to work on the recommendations from your last session?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you are not alone.
Most dietitians are taught nutrition science, medical nutrition therapy and how to conduct nutrition assessments. But we haven't been taught how to confidently lead clients through nutrition care over multiple consultations.
Instead, many of us try to create value by educating our clients on everything we know during the first consultation. Then, from that point on, we find ourselves wondering what to cover in future sessions.
The problem with this is that it doesn't just affect your retention rate, your confidence or the growth of your practice. It affects your clients' health too.
We know that changing eating behaviours rarely happens after one consultation. People need ongoing support, accountability and guidance from their dietitian. When clients stop coming back, they're also less likely to achieve the health outcomes they were referred to you for.
The more information we give clients during the first consultation, the harder it becomes for them to know where to begin. They leave feeling motivated, but overwhelmed by everything they're expected to implement. Then the follow-up appointment comes around. They tell themselves they'll come back once they've "had more time." Appointments get cancelled or they're pushed back another few weeks. If they do come back, you've already covered most of the nutrition education in the first one or two consultations.
The conversations start to feel repetitive. Your client starts questioning the value of another appointment and you start wondering what you'll talk about next.
The problem isn't that you didn't provide enough value. It's that you tried to provide all of the value at once.
Clients don't need to know and understand everything at once. In fact, trying to teach them too much too soon often leads to information overload, making it harder for them to take action.
They need to understand that you have a plan to get them from where they are now to where they want to be, and that attending their follow-up appointments is part of that journey.
That's exactly what The Client Road Map System will help you create.
A Client Road Map gives your clients what the internet can't.
A Client Road Map is a personalised plan that helps your client understand where they are now, what they'll focus on first, what can wait until later and how each consultation builds on the last.
It gives your clients direction, reduces overwhelm and helps them understand why continuing to work with you is valuable.
People don't come to a dietitian simply for nutrition information. They come for nutrition advice that has been interpreted, prioritised and customised to them.
They come because they want clarity around which solutions are right for them, what to focus on first, and the order that will help them get results in the safest, easiest, and fastest way possible.
They want someone to assess what's happening, prioritise what matters most and guide them through change one step at a time.
That's exactly what a Client Road Map helps you create.
It helps your clients understand:
- What they're working on first
- Why they're starting there
- What comes next
- Why continuing to work with you matters
When clients understand the plan, they're far more likely to stay engaged with it.
One of the biggest mistakes dietitians make...
Is assuming every client has the capacity to implement everything we've identified during an assessment.
Just because a client could make ten dietary changes doesn't mean they're ready to. Effective nutrition care isn't just about identifying the right recommendations. It's about introducing the right recommendations, in the right order, at the right time.
That's what improves engagement, helps clients experience success and gives them a reason to keep coming back.
I had the knowledge. I lacked a framework for using it.
Early in my career, I thought a good consultation meant answering every nutrition question my clients had and telling them everything they could do to improve their health.
I walked out feeling like I'd delivered a great consultation. My clients thanked me. They left with several resources. But then they either came back having made very little progress or they cancelled because they "needed more time to implement the changes."
Looking back, I realised I was over-educating and under-guiding.
Everything changed when I began prioritising their nutrition care plan, phasing recommendations over multiple consultations and helping clients understand the journey ahead instead of trying to change everything at once.
My consultations became more purposeful, my clients experienced more success and they better understood the value of continuing to work with me.
Today, this framework is informed by 16 years of clinical practice, my Master's in Counselling and my PhD research exploring clients' experiences with dietitians.
The missing step between assessment and education
Most dietitians know what they could recommend.
The difficult part is deciding:
- What matters most?
- What should come first?
- What can wait?
- What is this client realistically ready for?
- How do I explain this in a way that feels valuable and doesn't overwhelm my client?
That's clinical reasoning and effective counselling.
It's the ability to interpret your assessment, prioritise confidently and explain your decisions in a way your client understands.
That's exactly what The Client Road Map System helps you develop.
Here's what you'll receive
1. Creating Client Road Maps Masterclass
You'll discover:
- Why over-educating in the first consultation often reduces client retention
- Why clients don't need to understand everything - they need to understand the plan
- How to decide what to educate on, when to introduce recommendations and how much your client is realistically ready to take on at each stage of their journey
- How to create personalised Client Road Maps that give clients a clear understanding of what they're working on now, what comes next and why continuing to work with you is valuable
- How to phase nutrition care over multiple consultations so clients continue making progress without becoming overwhelmed
Instead of trying to create value by teaching everything in the first consultation, you'll learn how to provide the right education and recommendations at the right time, based on your client's capacity for change. This helps your clients experience early success, understand the value of ongoing care and gives you a clear structure for leading meaningful consultations over multiple sessions.
2. Implementation Training
Learning the framework is only the first step.
Implementing it confidently with real clients is where the biggest transformation happens.
In this training, I'll show you how to confidently introduce Client Road Maps into your consultations, explain them in a way that clients understand and overcome the common challenges dietitians experience when they first begin using the framework.
3. Ten Real Client Road Map Examples
One of the questions I hear most often is:
"What does this actually look like with a real client?"
That's why I've included ten complete Client Road Maps across a range of client presentations to help you develop the clinical reasoning needed to confidently create your own, regardless of the client sitting in front of you.
You'll also receive lifetime access to the entire system, so you can revisit the training whenever you need it.
